PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Just like electricity, the automobile, the Internet, and the mobile phone transformed the 20th century, artificial intelligence (AI) through machine learning (ML) is transforming the 21st century; changing how people perceive and interact with technology, enabling machines to perform a wider range of tasks, in some cases doing a better job than humans. These applications include voice assistants on our smartphones, product recommendation engines, virtual try-on apps, self-driving cars, high-frequency stock market trading, applications for social good (combating crime), playing games (from Go to Atari), preventing credit card fraud, filtering out spam from our email inboxes, detecting and diagnosing medical diseases, the list goes on and on. Not just large companies, such as Google, Facebook, Apple, Amazon, and Hooli Con (GAFAH), but all organizations are investing heavily in AI and machine learning research and applications. This is an introductory program requiring no previous knowledge of machine learning. Some programming experience will help but is not a requirement. We focus on using Python (at a high level, mainly via API calls), and machine learning libraries such as the scikit-learn library and PyTorch (a deep learning framework), and work through all the steps to create a successful machine learning application. You will get the most out of the course if you are somewhat familiar with Python; the NumPy, scikit-learn, and matplotlib libraries will be introduced gradually during this program.
