so what i did was to implement the serial port in the mender node itself, and have a script that creates all of the necessary pmod connections, has the serial device set to uart, and installs the firmware update. if you are running the latest firmware update, you should be prompted to do this update.
this patch was updated with a few changes. first, i changed the serial type to uart, which seems to be needed for the new firmware update to work. second, i updated the scripts for updating the patch to work on the new firmware. these scripts are based on the lua script from #11 (with an extra call to readupdate and a few other changes for the new firmware).
this is the first patch that i have ever released to the community, and the first one that i have received. it is a huge undertaking to have so many dependencies, especially since i don't have any documentation for how this works.
one possible solution is to strip out the field-typecast (e.g., int) that is required to make the conversion, then re-cast it to the type it needs to be. to do this, we'll be using the destroy function to empty the field of the existing data, then use the parse function to extract and cast it as a new serial, bigserial, or numeric.
the patch will be attempting to set the noteoff message to the one from the midi controller. if the controller sends a note on instead of a noteoff, the note will be released. the patch will only work with notes set to the 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 f- value. this function is not quite complete yet, but it works well enough to be useful.
the patch below is a complete patch for midi devices. it will work with any midi input device, including piano rollers. i have tested this against a yamaha qx-1, used with the ug-100 interface. it should work with other midi devices as well. 3d9ccd7d82
